CARVER

The Standard in Security Vulnerability Assessments (SVA)

We conduct a CARVER assessment for every new DARK EMBER physical security client. This allows the client to completely understand where their vulnerabilities are and DARK EMBER to best deploy our resources to address those vulnerabilities and reduce the client's exposure. Further, we offer periodic reassessments as the client's situation changes and evolves.

Using the System

The CARVER Method, as we use it today, was developed by the United States Special Operations Forces during the Vietnam War. Representing the principles of Criticality, Accessibility, Recoverability, Vulnerability, Effect, and Recognizability, the CARVER system serves as a methodology to pinpoint and prioritize potential targets, optimizing the deployment of attack resources. Initially conceived during World War II by the OSS to assist French operatives in the field, this framework provided a coherent and somewhat measurable approach to selecting targets for potential intervention. The versatility of the CARVER system allows for its application in both offensive (determining what to attack) and defensive (determining what to protect) strategies. At DARK EMBER, we use the CARVER Method to help clients maximize their physical security investment, anticipate surprise, and reduce risk.
